Customs Department Seizes Over 300 Cartons of Cigarettes in 3 Days

The Customs Department seized large quantities of tobacco products at Larnaca and Paphos airports. In total, 331 cartons of 200 cigarettes each and packages of rolling tobacco, weighing a total of 11 kilograms, were confiscated.

In a statement, the Customs Department reported that on 1/8/2025, at Larnaca Airport, the luggage of two 22-year-old British passengers bound for the United Kingdom was inspected. During the inspection, tobacco products were found without the necessary markings in Greek and Turkish, as well as without the traceability code.

The luggage of one passenger contained 60 cartons of cigarettes and 1.75 kg of tobacco, while the other had 65 cartons of cigarettes and 1.25 kg of tobacco. The passengers were arrested and released after an out-of-court settlement, paying €4,250 each.

On 2/8/2025, at Paphos Airport, 162 cartons of cigarettes were seized from a 33-year-old British passenger bound for the United Kingdom. The passenger was arrested and taken to the Paphos District Court, which ordered his 2-day detention.

On 3/8/2025, also at Paphos Airport, 44 cartons of cigarettes and 8 kg of tobacco were seized from a 19-year-old Polish passenger bound for the United Kingdom. The passenger was released after an out-of-court settlement, paying €3,000.
