Chaos with Traffic Tickets for Rental Car Drivers in Cyprus

A serious issue has arisen regarding the handling of traffic tickets issued by traffic cameras to rental vehicles in Cyprus. According to a report in «Φιλελεύθερος» newspaper, hundreds of tickets remain undelivered due to insufficient information to locate the drivers.
The problem mainly concerns tourists who have already left Cyprus, as well as residents who cannot be located. Some rental agencies only provide the tourist's name and hotel, which is often insufficient.
The Police have requested an amendment to the legislation, requiring rental agencies to provide specific information about renters, with liability shifting to the agencies in case of non-compliance.
Additionally, the creation of a list for Turkish Cypriot offenders is being considered, which will be handed over to checkpoints for control and delivery of tickets.
Over the years of operation of the system, thousands of tickets for T/C vehicles have been issued without being paid due to the inability to deliver them.
