Giannakis Case: Charges Dropped, Trial Continues
Share on:

Three days after the mystery surrounding the case of Giannis Giannakis was seemingly resolved, involving allegations of a forged high school diploma and studies in "the psychology of humor," the Legal Service suspended five of the eight charges he faced.

The case, which began in May 2021, concerns allegations of forgery and false pretenses. Mr. Giannakis allegedly used a forged degree to advance professionally.

During the trial, Giannakis made various requests, including the recusal of the judge, citing bias. He also challenged the legality of the proceedings, referring to statements by MP Christos Christofidis and the intervention of the former Auditor General.

The Legal Service initially rejected the possibility of charges for obtaining money under false pretenses, considering the money Giannakis received as "earned." In addition, an alleged forged degree from 2021 was not included in the case file to avoid "complications."

The judge criticized the Prosecution for delaying tactics, while the defense questions the adequacy of the evidence for the charges that were dropped.

The trial continues, with questions remaining about the stance of the Legal Service and the final outcome of the case.
