Significant finds have come to light during this year's excavations at the Palace of Amathus, including an impressive volute krater comparable to the famous François Vase.

The research, conducted from June 16 to July 4, 2025, under the direction of professors Thierry Petit and Jean-François Gué, led to the documentation of the complete plan of the Palace's ceremonial hall, dating back to the late 9th century BC.

The discovery of the most important collection of Attic black-figure and red-figure pottery ever found on the island, covering the period from 570-550 to the mid-4th century BC, is also a significant find. The large volute krater, comparable to the Kleitias Krater (François Vase), stands out.

The study of the archaeological material continued under the supervision of Professor Antigone Marangou and Thierry Petit, with the participation of Louise Détrez, who found that the pottery covers the period from 570-550 to the mid-4th century BC.

This year's excavations confirm that the palace of Amathus is the oldest known palace of the Iron Age in Cyprus.
