Famagusta Festivals Return: Anthestiria and Kataklysmos Revived

Delegations from the Municipalities of Famagusta and Paralimni-Deryneia met on October 24, 2025, to revive the Anthestiria and Kataklysmos festivals of Famagusta, two significant cultural institutions that took place in Famagusta before 1974.

The Mayor of Famagusta, Dr. Simos Ioannou, Municipal Councilors, and Municipal Secretary Marilena Manoli attended the meeting. Representing the Municipality of Paralimni-Deryneia were Mayor Giorgos Nikolettos, Deputy Mayors, members of the Municipal Council, and service officials.

The importance of cooperation in preserving historical memory and promoting the customs of Famagusta was emphasized. This initiative gains importance in view of the Republic of Cyprus' Presidency of the Council of the European Union in 2026.
