Banksy: "Migrant Child" Removed in Venice, Sparking Reactions

Banksy's artwork "Migrant Child", which appeared in 2019 on a building wall in Venice, has been removed for restoration. This decision has sparked reactions in the art community.
The mural, depicting a child wearing a life jacket and holding a flare, had become a popular tourist attraction. However, its location next to the water caused damage due to salt.
The removal and restoration were decided by the Italian Ministry of Culture, sponsored by Banca Ifis. Bank representatives stated that they had obtained Banksy's permission for the restoration.
Artists have expressed their opposition, arguing that restoration alters the meaning of street art, which is often ephemeral.
