The Zygomalas Museum in Avlonas, Oropou Municipality, has reopened to the public after 2.5 years of maintenance work by the Ministry of Culture.

The Mayor of Oropou, Giorgos Giasimakis, expressed his admiration for the renovation of the museum, which is housed in the historic home of the Zygomalas family and hosts cultural treasures and folk art objects.

Loukia Zygomala (1863-1947) settled in Avlonas in 1930 and founded an embroidery school, which won international awards. The school numbered approximately 1,500 embroiderers from Attica. In 1936, Loukia Zygomala collected the school's material and exhibited it in her home.

The museum includes objects from the Zygomalas family, as well as exhibits of embroidery art. A standout is the Turkish flag taken by Andreas Zygomalas at the Battle of Bizani.

The goal is to revive the embroidery school.
