Eurydice Papaikakou: Cypriot Success in Animation

Cypriot director Eurydice Papaikakou has won the FAN Young European Talents Award for her short film “Poppy Flowers” (2024). The award ceremony took place at the Imaginaria International Animation Festival in Italy on August 23, 2025.

The film addresses the reconciliation between a mother and daughter. The jury consisted of Deanna Morse (USA), Joanna Quinn (United Kingdom), and Tamás Patrovits (Hungary).

FAN – Festivals Animation Network, co-funded by the Creative Europe MEDIA program, unites five animation festivals in Europe, including Animafest Cyprus. Giorgos Tsaggaris, director of Animafest Cyprus, participated in the jury of the Imaginaria festival.

Eurydice Papaikakou stated that she is honored to receive the award and believes that young people have a lot to say and animation is a good way to express themselves.

This success highlights the contribution of Animafest Cyprus to the development of animation in Cyprus.
