Green Day's 'American Idiot' Tops UK Rock Album Chart of the 21st Century

Green Day's album American Idiot has been named the best-selling rock and metal studio album of the 21st century in the United Kingdom, according to the Official Charts. The announcement was made on the occasion of National Album Day.

The album, released in 2004, outsold Linkin Park, The Darkness, Muse, and Foo Fighters. American Idiot reached the top spot in the UK, generating revenue exceeding €2.99 million.

Linkin Park's Hybrid Theory is in second place, followed by The Darkness's Permission to Land. Muse and Foo Fighters each have four albums in the top 40.

National Album Day 2025 will be dedicated to rock music.
