The Academy of Athens honored the historical Arkadi Association of Rethymnians in Attica for its long-standing contribution to the culture and tradition of Cretan heritage.

At the celebratory session on December 18, 2025, the Academy presented the association with the high distinction of "Honorable Mention" from the Second Class of Letters and Fine Arts.

The president of the association, Georgios N. Vlatakis, received the honorary distinction from the president of the Academy of Athens, Professor Michalis Tiberios. Mr. Vlatakis emphasized that the award honors Rethymno, Crete, and the Cretans, as well as all those who contribute to the work of the association.

The event was attended by, among others, former President of the Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos, former Prime Minister Loukas Papadimos, and Deputy Minister of Education Nikos Papaioannou.
