David Gilmour's Guitar Sold for $14.55 Million, Sets Record

David Gilmour's guitar from Pink Floyd, a black Fender Stratocaster known as 'The Black Strat', was sold at auction for $14.55 million.
The sale set a new world record price for a guitar. The auction was conducted by Christie's and lasted 21 minutes.
The amount exceeded the previous record of $6.01 million for Kurt Cobain's guitar.
Gilmour bought the guitar in 1970. It was used on six Pink Floyd albums and in many concerts between 1972 and 1983, including the albums 'The Dark Side of the Moon', 'Wish You Were Here', 'Animals', 'The Wall', and 'The Final Cut'.
The guitar came from the collection of Jim Irsay.
