AI in Music Production Sparks Debate

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in music production has sparked intense debate in the music industry. The American rock band The Velvet Sundown, with nearly one million subscribers on Spotify, revealed that they were entirely an AI product, causing reactions.

Artists such as Congolese-Belgian rapper Damso are using AI to create choirs, while others, such as French electronic music composer Delaurentis and Canadian DJ-producer Caribou, are using it to change their voices. Doubts exist about the song "Toi et moi" by French rapper Jul, with listeners suspecting AI usage.

American producer Timbaland founded "Stage Zero," a record company focused on "A-pop" or artificial pop, with his first artist, TaTa, being an AI product.

Goldman Sachs analyst Lisa Young emphasizes that Generative AI accelerates and reduces the cost of content creation. However, Billboard France CEO Ulysse Hennessy reports that AI-supported music is limited in terms of audience listening and revenue.

Odile de Plas from Télérama emphasizes the need for regulation to ensure transparency and artist revenue. She believes that the relationship with the artist will save the situation, as the connection and interest in what they say cannot be replaced by Artificial Intelligence.
