The Odeon of Herodes Atticus will be closed for at least three years due to extensive maintenance, protection, and restoration works. According to Elena Kountouri, Head of the Directorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities, the works aim to preserve and improve the monument's accessibility.

The Odeon will remain open for scheduled events until the end of October before its operation is suspended. The works include addressing damages such as biodeterioration, root systems, cracks, and failures of previous interventions.

The detailed presentation of the studies by the KAS is expected in early 2026. Plans include highlighting the stage building and mosaic floors, checking the sound load, renovating dressing rooms and WCs, and improving fire protection and the drainage system.

The Odeon has been a central point of the Athens Festival since 1955, hosting numerous Greek and foreign artists. Last year, Coldplay filmed the music video for their song 'Feels like I'm falling in love' there.
