Katerina Gregos: "Museums are not built on hot air"

The artistic director of EMST (National Museum of Contemporary Art, Athens), Katerina Gregos, discusses the creation of a contemporary art museum in Cyprus, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and historical self-awareness.
In an interview on the occasion of a lecture in Nicosia, Gregos stresses the need for a realistic approach and urges: "Don't do something so big that you can't manage it."
She refers to the potential difficulty of Greek art in recognizing its Balkan kinship, while emphasizing that museums should address the environmental crisis and avoid easy sensationalism.
Regarding Cyprus, Gregos points out that a contemporary art museum would make sense due to the island's geopolitical position and the need for creative collaborations.
Finally, she emphasizes the importance of investing in human resources and freedom from political interference for the sustainability of a museum.
