Cyprus Library: Reading Room Faces Closure

The Cyprus Library is facing a serious accommodation problem. The Archbishopric has requested the return of the Tsaousi building, which houses the reading room, within six months, to be handed over to the branch of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The Deputy Ministry of Culture is urgently seeking temporary solutions, as the building found in the Agios Antonios area was initially rejected by the Planning Authority. Relocation to the Shacolas Educational Center for Clinical Medicine is also being considered.

If an immediate solution is not found, the Library risks underperformance, as the new building in the area of the Secretariat is scheduled for 2040.

Librarians are expressing concern about where they will be transferred and how the public will be served.
