Manos Hatzidakis, an emblematic figure of Greek music, was born in Xanthi on October 23, 1925. Niki Goulান্ডris had described him as "simultaneously a Homeric hero, an Athenian of the 5th century BC, a Renaissance sage, an enlightened European, and a pious Orthodox Christian."

In his biographical note, Hatzidakis expressed his indifference to fame and his belief in the song that reveals and expresses in depth. He despised those who do not seek revision and spiritual renewal.

In a 1986 article, Hatzidakis spoke about his album "Winter Sun," on which he collaborated with Nikos Gatsos and Manolis Mitsias. He explained that he worked conscientiously to create a modern folk song that reveals fresh faces and modern sensibilities, regardless of the demands of the masses.

Gatsos singled out the song "On the Pamisos River" from the album, with references to Kalamata and the Peloponnese.
