After 40 years in thrash metal, Megadeth has announced that their next album will be their last. Dave Mustaine, the band's founder, revealed the reasons behind this decision, talking about his health and his desire to retire on his own terms.

The band, founded in 1983 in Los Angeles, will embark on a global farewell tour in 2026. The announcement was made via a video featuring Vic Rattlehead, the band's mascot.

Dave Mustaine, 64, told the New York Times that he wants to retire at the peak of his career. He also mentioned that he is facing health issues, such as Dupuytren's disease and arthritis, which make it difficult to continue recording and touring.

Director Casey Tebo, who prepared the film Megadeth: Behind the Mask, spoke about the band's relationship with their fans, describing them as 'outcasts' who found refuge in their music.

Mustaine also referred to his relationship with Metallica, saying that from his side there are no problems. On the new album, Megadeth covers Ride the Lightning, a song to which he contributed.

Referring to his political stance, he stated that he is a Christian but not right-wing. He also spoke about the changes in his perspective after being diagnosed with tongue cancer in 2019.

The farewell concerts will begin in Canada, with no specific date set for the last one.
