Michelle Gomez: I fully support trans people and their rights

Actress Michelle Gomez, known for her role in Doctor Who, has declared her support for the trans community after the announcement that she will voice Professor McGonagall in the audio version of the Harry Potter series. The production is by Pottermore Publishing in collaboration with Audible.

In a message on Instagram, Gomez stressed that she understands the pain her participation in the project may have caused and clarified that she stands by trans people and supports their rights. The audio series will include over 200 actors, and the first volume will be released on November 4, 2025.

The participation of Gomez and other actors, such as John Lithgow and Nick Frost, has provoked reactions due to J.K. Rowling's statements, which have been described as transphobic. Frost stated that "she is entitled to her opinion, and I am entitled to mine."
