A new book reveals details of David Bowie's final months, shedding light on how the artist kept his illness a secret and transformed his death into an artistic act.

Approximately three years before his death, David Bowie visited an exhibition about his life at the V&A Museum in London in July 2013, along with his wife Iman and their daughter Lexi. The visit was conducted secretly, with the artist touring the museum and observing the exhibits.

The diagnosis of liver cancer was made in the summer of 2014, while Bowie learned that the disease was incurable in November 2015. The period from The Next Day (2013) to Blackstar (2016) is considered one of the most productive of his life.

Lazarus, based on The Man Who Fell to Earth, was one of his last works. During rehearsals, director Ivo van Hove discerned a man with a broken heart.

Blackstar was released on January 8, 2016, two days before his death. David Bowie transformed his death into art, leaving an eternal legacy.
