POGO: Mourning the death of Kalliopi Spyrou

The Women's Movement POGO expressed its deep sorrow for the death of Kalliopi Spyrou, describing her as "the great voice of Cyprus, a woman of art and the people."
In its announcement, POGO emphasizes that Kalliopi Spyrou honored the organization's events with her presence, and was a member of AKEL since 1948. She participated in militant demonstrations and was imprisoned in 1952 by the British colonialists.
Kalliopi Spyrou was born in Kythrea in 1932 and collaborated with Achilleas Lymbouridis, interpreting lyrics by Cypriot poets. She made her television debut on RIK in 1964 and represented Cyprus in international events. In 2019 she was honored with the "Tefkrou Anthia – Thodosis Pieridis" Award.
