The latest Asterix comic book, depicting the adventures of the Gaulish hero in Lusitania, has sold 1.65 million copies in France since its release on October 23, marking the highest sales in the last 20 years, according to the publishing house.

According to data from the GFK institute, "Asterix in Lusitania" finished the year with record sales, a 2.2% increase compared to the previous album, "The White Iris," released in 2023.

Sales of the album exceeded 100,000 per week in December. Overall, these are the highest sales for an Asterix album in the last 20 years, since "Asterix and the Falling Sky" in 2005.

In his new adventure, Asterix and his inseparable friend Obelix travel to Portugal to help the Lusitanians in their war against the Romans. In Portugal, the album sold 150,000 copies.

The next album is expected to be released in the fall of 2027. In the meantime, a French animated film that takes Asterix to the "Kingdom of Nubia" will be released in cinemas in late 2026.

2026 also marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of René Goscinny, the co-creator of Asterix in collaboration with Albert Uderzo.
