Artificial Intelligence and Culture: New Opportunities and Challenges

The Ministry of Culture presented a strategy for integrating Artificial Intelligence into the cultural sector. The Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni, explained that the actions will cover cultural heritage and contemporary culture, based on studies by Ernst & Young and the Intellectual Property Organization (OPI).
The studies include the unification of cultural data, the protection of monuments from climate change through digital twins, the strengthening of international outreach, and the protection of intellectual property rights.
Ioannis Mastrogiorgiou, Special Secretary for Long-Term Planning, emphasized the need to redefine the role of humans in culture, given the influence of Artificial Intelligence. Dr. Kostis Chlouverakis of Ernst & Young Greece, referred to the creation of an integrated Artificial Intelligence platform for Cultural Heritage.
Maria-Dafni Papadopoulou from OPI, highlighted the risks of Artificial Intelligence for intellectual property rights, due to the unauthorized use of works and the production of competitive content.
