Paolo Sorrentino received a warm standing ovation for his film 'La Grazia' at the opening ceremony of the Venice Film Festival.

The film, which opened the 82nd Venice Film Festival, marks Sorrentino's seventh collaboration with Toni Servillo. The premiere was also attended by Tilda Swinton and Cate Blanchett.

The plot follows Mariano De Santis, the President of the Republic, who is called upon to make critical decisions regarding euthanasia and pardoning those convicted of murder.

Sorrentino stated that he wanted to present a positive example of a politician in his film, in contrast to the negative news we see every day.

During the opening ceremony, Francis Ford Coppola presented Werner Herzog with the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement.
