V. Kassianidou: Culture is a fundamental pillar of the EU

The Deputy Minister of Culture, Vasiliki Kassianidou, presented the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU in the fields of culture and media at the European Parliament today.

Ms. Kassianidou stressed that culture is a fundamental pillar of the European structure and a bridge for dialogue.

She emphasized the importance of cooperation in promoting culture and media as spaces where European democracy and freedom of expression acquire tangible content.

The Deputy Minister referred to the Culture Compass for Europe as a strategic milestone and to the new AgoraEU program for funding culture, media and civil society.

Finally, she highlighted the importance of protecting cultural rights and combating the illicit trafficking of cultural goods.
