Yiannakis Case: Another Adjournment and Strict Warning

The trial of former Commissioner for Volunteerism, Yiannis Yiannakis, has been adjourned again at the Nicosia District Court. The court issued a strict warning to both sides to expedite the proceedings.
The hearing was rescheduled for August 6th at 10:00 AM. Judge Nicol Grigoriou warned that she would consider other options if a sufficient number of witnesses are not presented.
The representative of the prosecuting authority, Marina Masoura, stated that witnesses had not been summoned due to another case at the Nicosia Criminal Court. She agreed with the defense lawyer, Petros Stavrou, to prepare admissible facts to reduce the number of witnesses.
The process began in November 2024. So far, 15 prosecution witnesses have appeared, with five more remaining, including the case investigator and four people from ONEK.
Mr. Yiannakis has admitted to three charges related to the circulation of a forged high school diploma and university degree to the Cyprus Youth Organization. The remaining charges concern forgery and circulation of a forged document.
