Deadlock on Cost of Living Allowance: Strike Action Looms

Negotiations regarding the Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment (ATA) have reached a deadlock at the Ministry of Labour, with both sides remaining firm. Despite hours of discussions, the gap between employer and union organizations has not been bridged, leaving open the possibility of strike action.
The central point of disagreement remains the percentage of ATA payment. The unions are demanding full restoration of the institution to 100%, while employers are proposing no increase in costs.
The Government proposed linking ATA to growth rates, the percentage of payment, and specific provisions. However, employer representatives did not present specific proposals beyond the position of no cost increase.
Monday is considered crucial, as a decision is expected on the further stance of the unions. PASYDY Secretary General, Stratis Matthaiou, stated that employers only accept a redistribution of current spending. DEOK President, Stelios Christodoulou, called on the Ministry to submit a proposal to restore the ATA.
OEB Director General, Michalis Antoniou, said that the discussions are valuable, while KEBE Secretary General, Filokypros Rousounides, expressed concern about strike announcements.
