Instant Payments in Europe: What Changes from 2025
Share on:

From September 2025, money transfers within the European Union will become instant, costing less than 1 euro in Greece. The new regulation, effective from March 5, 2024, promises speed, lower costs, and increased security for transactions.

Payment service providers in the Eurozone are required to accept instant payments within nine months (from December 5, 2024) and send them within 18 months (from September 5, 2025).

The ability to send money instantly is expected to free up approximately 220 billion euros daily, which are currently 'frozen' until traditional transfers are completed.
