Cypriot Farmers Suspend Protests After Meeting with Minister

Agricultural organizations have announced the temporary postponement of protests scheduled for Monday, following an emergency meeting with the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panayiotou.

In a joint statement, the organizations PEK, EKA, Panagrotikos, New Agricultural Movement, Evroagrotikos and the Pancyprian Wheat Producers Organization (POS) stated that all the problems for which the protests had been announced were discussed.

The agricultural organizations decided to give the competent state services additional time to resolve the problems and thanked the Minister of Agriculture for her initiative.

In addition to the Minister, officials from KOAP, the Director of the Department of Agriculture, and senior officials from the Ministry of Interior, the Land Registry and the Turkish Cypriot Property Management Service attended the meeting.

Prior to the meeting, a meeting was held between the Ministers of Agriculture and Interior with the Commissioner of KOAP.
