Trade Unions Express Concern Over Cyprus Tax Reform

Trade unions PEO, SEK, DEOK, and PASYDY, members of the Advisory Economic Committee, have expressed concern about the progress of tax reform in Cyprus, citing a lack of meaningful dialogue with social partners.
The organizations emphasize that despite the agreement to continue the dialogue, a framework with unknown content is being promoted without comprehensive consultation. They point out shortcomings in the amount of the tax-free allowance, tax brackets, deductions, and the reduction of indirect taxes.
They also mention the absence of measures to combat tax evasion, which, according to data from the University of Cyprus, is on the rise. The trade unions call on the government to strengthen social dialogue for a fair and sustainable reform.
