The Transmission System Operator has proceeded with cutbacks to photovoltaic systems for residential consumers due to reduced electricity demand. The EAC announced that the disconnection was carried out on the instructions of the Cyprus Transmission System Operator.

Hara Kousiappa, Press Representative of the Transmission System Operator, stated that the cutbacks occur when production exceeds consumption, reducing conventional production to the minimum possible to ensure system stability. This is the third consecutive weekend this has happened.

The Cyprus Consumers Association complains that the payback period for photovoltaic systems is increasing due to the cutbacks. Marios Drousiotis, President of the Association, emphasized that consumers are now receiving fewer benefits from their investment.

The Ministry of Energy's plan to install batteries in households is delayed, but efforts are being made to have it ready by the end of the year. Experts estimate that cutbacks will increase if an energy storage system is not installed. Dr. Konstantinos Hatzistassou, Professor at the University of Nicosia, predicts more cutbacks in spring and autumn due to surplus electricity production.

Mr. Hatzistassou warns of possible cutbacks in winter due to the old units of the EAC.
