Compensation for Excess Energy from Photovoltaics: What Changes
Share on:

The bill proposed by Michalis Yakoumi for compensating excess electricity from domestic photovoltaics (net metering) was unanimously approved. The law establishes a compensation mechanism for excess energy produced by photovoltaics and not consumed, allowing the amount to be transferred to another meter.

The practice of nullifying excess energy is terminated, ensuring that the compensation will not burden other consumers. Independent MP Michalis Yakoumi stated that there was a blatant injustice against citizens with photovoltaics.

Despite reservations about unconstitutionality, the bill was unanimously approved after an emergency meeting of the competent committee.

The Council of Ministers should immediately reinstate the Self-Consumption Scheme that expired on December 31, 2025, until a new Scheme is issued, covering the existing policy gap created since January 1st.
