Fuel Price Fluctuations: Disagreements on Prices, No New Measures Expected

Disagreements have arisen regarding fuel prices following the implementation of tax relief. The Consumers' Association accused some gas stations of non-compliance, while the Consumer Protection Service found no evidence of profiteering.
Konstantinos Karagiorgis, director of the Consumer Protection Service, emphasized that Cyprus has some of the lowest fuel prices in the EU and that the government has reached the minimum taxation limit.
Mr. Karagiorgis explained that prices are determined by companies and import costs, and it is difficult to stop increases due to the global economy and the war. He also mentioned that a price cap is not a solution, as it could lead to fuel shortages.
On the other hand, the Consumers' Association is requesting information on whether there has been a violation of legislation by gas stations that did not reduce prices.
Christodoulos Christodoulou, press representative of the Gas Station Owners Association, stated that gas station owners reduced prices and should not be targeted.
Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis stated that no additional measures are expected at this stage, as the government is monitoring developments and has prepared scenarios.
