Denmark Ends Tax on Coffee and Chocolate to Ease Household Burden

Denmark is abolishing taxes on coffee and chocolate to alleviate the burden on households due to rising food prices.
Danish Deputy Prime Minister Troels Lund Poulsen told TV2 that the abolition aims to give Danes more disposable income.
According to the Ministry of Taxation, a package of coffee will cost five kroner less (€0.66). The special tax on chocolate, applied to products containing cocoa, sweets, and chewing gum, amounts to €3-3.5 depending on sugar content.
In July, the price of chocolate increased by 25.3% and coffee by 35.5%. Overall, food prices rose by 6.5% year-on-year.
The abolition of the taxes is expected to cost Denmark's public finances 2.4 billion kroner (€321 million). The abolition of VAT on books has also been announced.
