ATA Dispute: Employers Reject Government Plan, Unions Accept

Efforts to reach a permanent agreement on the Automatic Cost of Living Adjustment (ATA) have failed. Employers rejected the government's framework, while trade unions accepted it.

Speaking on Πρωινό Δρομολόγιο, the Director General of OEB, Michalis Antoniou, expressed disagreement with the draft, noting that it includes reference to measures and incentives by the Ministers of Labor and Finance to extend the ATA. He believes that the 'measures' negate previous agreements.

Mr. Antoniou also stated that linking the ATA to the minimum wage, which is adjusted annually in the draft, contradicts current regulations that provide for a biennial review.

The Secretary General of KEBE, Filokypros Rousounidis, echoed this view, stating that the draft was unacceptable. He pointed out that during the meeting at the Presidential Palace, there was no mention of 'measures', but only 'incentives'.

Regarding the minimum wage, Mr. Rousounidis argued that supporting low-wage earners is not achieved, as most minimum wage earners are foreigners who send the money abroad.
