Paphos Municipality: Complaint to the CPC Pending for 9 Years

The Paphos Municipality reports that a complaint filed with the Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) nine years ago remains pending. The complaint, concerning the Association of Mechanical and Electrical Contractors of Cyprus (SEMIHEK), was submitted on June 16, 2016.
Initially, the CPC ruled in favor of the Paphos Municipality in 2017, imposing a fine on SEMIHEK. However, the Administrative Court overturned the decision in 2020 due to statements made by the then-President of the CPC.
The Paphos Municipality expresses its disappointment with the delay, noting that it was only in July 2025 that it was informed about the reconsideration of the case. It considers it doubtful whether there will be any substantial development before 2028. It calls for a swift and transparent examination of the case, as well as clear timetables and accountability from the institutions involved.
The Paphos Municipality emphasizes that the delay undermines the prestige and credibility of the institutions.
