Cyprus Customs Brokers on Indefinite Strike Starting Friday

Members of the Association of Customs Agents have decided to proceed with an indefinite strike starting Friday, following the failure of negotiations regarding the implementation of the new Automated Import System (AIS).
The President of the Association, Christos Akaros, stated that the decision was taken unanimously at an extraordinary General Assembly. The leadership of the Association is expected to be called for consultations at the Ministry of Finance tomorrow.
The Customs Department proposed the start of the new system on September 29, with parallel changes, while the Association requested the continuation of the existing 'Theseas' system for one month.
The strike is expected to affect the ports of Limassol and Larnaca, as well as the Nicosia customs office.
