Private Veterinarians Activated to Combat Sheep and Goat Pox

The Ministry of Rural Development and Food (ΥΠΑΑΤ) has announced the activation of private veterinarians to combat sheep and goat pox. This decision follows the publication of a relevant Joint Ministerial Decision (KYA).
The General Secretary of Agricultural Development, Spyros Protopsaltis, stated that the assistance of authorized private veterinarians enables the Regions to strengthen surveillance activities. The veterinarians will assist in clinical surveillance, sampling, epizootiological investigation, disinfection, and supervision of culling and sanitary burial.
To participate, veterinarians must legally practice the profession, not hold a license to sell veterinary drugs, and not be employed in the public sector.
Their remuneration is determined based on the size of the farm and the region (mountainous or not). The costs will be covered by the ΥΠΑΑΤ's public investment program.
In addition, 97 military veterinarians have already been activated to strengthen the fight against sheep and goat pox.
