Tension in Parliament Over Vasiliko Terminal

Tension arose in the Parliamentary Energy Committee regarding the progress of the liquefied natural gas terminal in Vasiliko. The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Giorgos Papanastasiou, assured that the project "is feasible, must be completed, and will be completed."
The Chairman of the Committee, Kyriakos Hatzigiannis, accused the government of "delaying tactics," a claim rejected by the Minister. Mr. Papanastasiou stressed that the ETYFA advisor recommends that it is "impossible and operationally dangerous to announce tenders at this time."
The Minister stated that a study is expected to identify gaps and deviations in the project, while pointing out the risk of lack of interest from construction companies due to the "burdens" the project carries. Mr. Papanastasiou expressed his belief that the procedure followed is correct, stressing that the project must be completed safely.
Regarding the investigations into how the project was awarded, the Minister stated that these are being investigated by the European Public Prosecutor's Office.
