The government's financial team is re-evaluating plans to provide an allowance of 100-200 euros to vulnerable groups, due to rising fuel prices caused by the war in the Middle East.

Initially, the provision of an emergency allowance to low-income pensioners, beneficiaries of the Social Solidarity Income, people with disabilities (OPEKA), and families eligible for the A21 Allowance was being considered.

However, the war operations in Iran and the surge in oil prices are leading to second thoughts. The potential fund of 300-400 million euros may be directed to a new Fuel Pass to cover part of the increase in fuel prices.

Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis signaled the new Fuel Pass, acknowledging the increase in oil prices. Announcements are expected in the coming days by ministers Mr. Kyriakos Pierrakakis and Mr. Stavros Papastavrou.

The last Fuel Pass was granted in 2022. The increase in fuel prices is expected to affect the state budget, especially if the war in the Middle East continues.
