Study: Counterfeit Products Flood Temu, Shein, and AliExpress

The Information Technology and Innovation Foundation (ITIF) conducted a study on the quality of products sold on Shein, Temu, and AliExpress platforms. The study examined 51 products and found that many of them are counterfeit.
The ITIF report points out that Chinese e-commerce platforms do not adequately comply with intellectual property and consumer protection laws. Counterfeit products cost the U.S. economy up to $600 billion annually.
China is the main source of counterfeit products worldwide. The ITIF found that CBP (U.S. Customs and Border Protection) seized some products from AliExpress, but failed to identify all potential counterfeit products from Temu and Shein.
The report states that sellers exploit weak oversight by using misleading tactics. Temu hosts highly deceptive counterfeit products, while AliExpress offers a plethora of counterfeit products that are difficult to detect.
