Why Electricity Prices Remain High Despite Renewable Energy Sources?

Despite the increase in Renewable Energy Sources (RES) in Greece, electricity prices remain high. According to the President of RAAEY, the market structure, infrastructure costs, the role of natural gas, and the lack of energy storage are the main factors.
While RES have almost zero variable costs, prices are affected by the operation of the electricity system and the investments required to connect RES projects to the grids.
Dimitris Fourlaris stated that the increase in the share of RES is impressive but does not automatically lead to lower prices for consumers.
