Hyundai and General Motors Partner for New Vehicles

Hyundai and General Motors (GM) have announced a new partnership to jointly develop five vehicles, targeting the American market. The collaboration is expected to begin in 2028.
According to Hyundai Motor Co. CEO Jose Muñoz, this alliance will allow both companies to grow faster and more sustainably. The partnership aims for 800,000 annual sales, with initial estimates of 100,000 vehicles.
The collaboration will leverage GM's product expertise and Hyundai's manufacturing presence. Plans include an electric commercial truck for North America, as well as a compact crossover, a sedan, a pickup, and a mid-size pickup for Central and South America.
Muñoz stated that Hyundai is exploring collaboration opportunities with GM in areas such as logistics, steel, and propulsion systems. Hyundai already provides logistics services to GM through its subsidiary Glovis.
Product development will be based on a clear division of roles, with a 'donor' and a 'recipient' for each model. Hyundai will lead the development of the electric truck and small vehicles, while GM will lead the development of the mid-size pickup.
The partnership is supported by the top management of both companies, including Euisun Chung of Hyundai and Mary Barra of GM.
