Amazon Announces 14,000 Layoffs Amid AI Investments

Amazon has announced it will cut 14,000 jobs globally as part of a broader restructuring and shift towards artificial intelligence.
Amazon's head of human resources, Beth Galetti, described artificial intelligence as "the most transformative technology since the internet."
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy had mentioned in a memo in June that the company would need fewer people in certain positions due to the increased use of artificial intelligence.
The layoffs at Amazon follow similar moves by other companies in the technology sector, including Target, Meta, Microsoft, Paramount Skydance, and Salesforce.
According to financial statements, Amazon employed 1.55 million people worldwide at the end of the second quarter.
