Shipping Turns to the "Global South"

International shipping is seeking new sea routes to the "Global South" due to changing tariff policies. Japan's Mitsui OSK Lines (MOL) is partnering with India's Suzuki Motor Corporation to develop car trade between India and Africa.
India is emerging as a major car export hub to Africa due to proximity and competitive prices. S&P Global reports that Chinese companies are heading to the Global South, facing US tariffs. China's exports to these regions exceed exports to the US and Western Europe by 50%.
Maersk forecasts a global container volume increase of up to 4% due to resilient demand outside the US. DWS Group estimates that the competitiveness of Chinese exports and strengthened economic ties with the Middle East and Africa are a structural trend.
