IRIS: Instant Payments with Lower Fees in Greece

The IRIS instant payment system, operated through DIAS S.A. and offered by Greek banks, enables real-time money transfers between citizens and businesses. There are no charges for consumers, and fees are lower for businesses compared to other payment methods.
The recipient's account number is not required, only the mobile number, VAT number, or IRIS QR. The service operates 24/7, offering security and transparency.
Nearly 4.1 million citizens use IRIS for transactions (IRIS Person to Person), while over 560,000 professionals and sole proprietorships have registered (IRIS Person to Professional). Approximately 9,000 online stores participate in IRIS Commerce.
From November 1, 2025, all businesses must accept payments via IRIS. POS terminals will support payments with IRIS QR. From January 2026, the daily limit for transactions between individuals will increase to €1,000, with a monthly limit of €5,000. The same will apply to payments to professionals, with a maximum limit of €31,000 per month.
IRIS also benefits the Public sector, as EFKA and AADE accept payments through it. AADE uses digital tools to detect tax evasion through the system.
IRIS is integrated into the European Regulation for Instant Payments (Instant Payments Regulation) and promotes a digital and transparent economy.
