Koumis: Return of tourism to affected areas is a major challenge

A major challenge for the Deputy Ministry of Tourism is the rapid return of affected areas to tourism activity, stated Deputy Minister Kostas Koumis after visiting Omodos, which was affected by the July fires.
Mr. Koumis recalled the support measures decided on July 30, including support for lost revenue and actions for tourism recovery. Support for recreation centers and traditional product shops in the affected areas is also under consideration.
Information was requested on tour operators who have suspended their excursions to the area. The Deputy Minister also referred to the domestic tourism plan starting on January 1, 2026, which covers two periods: compensation until 2025 and promotion of the areas from 2026.
He stressed the need for press trips to the affected areas and called on Cypriots to support the recovery effort.
