The President of the European Investment Bank (EIB), Nadia Calviño, stated that the bank is ready to support strategic energy projects between Cyprus and Greece. The statement was made in an interview with the Cyprus News Agency (CYPE).

Calviño specifically mentioned the Greece-Cyprus Interconnector (GSI) project, emphasizing that projects compatible with the energy strategies of both countries would be supported. The interview took place on the sidelines of the EIB Board of Directors meeting in Nicosia, on September 29-30, 2025.

Furthermore, the EIB President announced an increase in funding for Europe's independence and autonomy in defense, while leaving open the possibility of funding the "drone wall." Regarding Turkey, Calviño mentioned that the EIB is considering a gradual re-engagement, in accordance with the mandate of the European Council.

Calviño stressed that intensifying the green transition is a matter of competitiveness, lower energy prices, and strategic autonomy. The EIB has already invested over 50% of its funding in promoting the green transition.
