Air Canada's cabin crew union has gone on strike after negotiations for higher wages failed. The strike is expected to affect more than 100,000 passengers.

The union, representing over 10,000 flight attendants, initiated a 72-hour strike, the first since 1985. Air Canada has suspended all flights for both Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.

The airline advises customers not to go to airports unless they have a confirmed ticket with another airline. Flights for regional airlines Air Canada Jazz and PAL Airlines will continue as normal.

Cabin crew are demanding to be paid for time between flights and during passenger boarding. Pickets will take place at major Canadian airports.

Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge typically carry around 130,000 passengers per day. Air Canada is also the busiest foreign airline serving the USA.
