EU Commission: Commitment to GSI Without Delay – Stance on EPPO Investigation

The European Commission has called on all parties involved to commit to the implementation of the Great Sea Interconnector (GSI) project as soon as possible, emphasizing its importance for Cyprus.
Commission spokesperson Anna-Kaisa Itkonen stated that the project remains of utmost political and strategic importance, ending the energy isolation of Cyprus and enhancing Renewable Energy Sources (RES).
Ms. Itkonen explained that before funding from the EU, the project underwent a thorough viability check through mechanisms such as the Connecting Europe Facility.
Regarding the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) investigation into the GSI, the Commission is aware of the start of the process but does not comment, as the EPPO is the only competent body.
The Commission reiterated that it is in the interest of all parties to proceed with the timely implementation of the project.
