Koumis: A Race to Restore Tourism in Fire-Affected Areas

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, stated that the main challenge is the rapid return of the affected areas to tourist activity. The statements were made after a visit to Omodos, which was hit by the July fire.
Mr. Koumis recalled the support measures decided by the Council of Ministers, aimed at covering lost revenue and tourism recovery. During a dialogue with the Presidents of the community councils and the entrepreneurs, the need for support for recreation centers and traditional product shops was identified.
Information was requested on tour operators who have suspended or transferred activities. Mr. Koumis emphasized the satisfaction of businesses with the measures and the Government's approach. He also referred to a domestic tourism plan from 2026 and the need to organize journalist trips to the affected areas.
He appealed to Cypriots to support the effort and to entrepreneurs to support each other.
